4 Outdoor Activities You Can Participate in During the Lockdown

As our lives become more accustomed to spending time surrounded by our loved ones during the lockdown, we’re starting to realize that this might be reality for a while. However, some of the most common feelings to arise during this lockdown due to a disconnect from the outside world can be loneliness and even suffocation. Spending some time outdoors near your home, even if it’s for just half an hour while you do some chores, can do wonders to uplift your mood.

It’s very important to check with your local guidelines to ascertain if it’s safe to head out outdoors in the first place. Otherwise, you can also spend time with your children in your backyard doing any of the following activities.

Plant a garden

Explore the possibility of having a green thumb in your family and get a taste of sustainable living with your children. Plant a garden with some easy to grow vegetables to help your children learn more about where food comes from. It also gives you an opportunity to learn a new skill with your children. You can learn the names of different vegetables, fruits and flowers.

Create a lively outdoor space

Designate a space outside in the backyard or a terrace if you have one to allowing your children to explore with a wide range of activities. Whether it’s building, swimming in your pool, or even practicing their favorite arts outside like playing music, make sure you spend some time with nature, or even listening to the birds chirp.

Go hiking

As long as you practice the proper protocol for hiking and other activities outside such as maintaining a social distance with others and taking your supplies, you can continue hiking. Be responsible and go towards trails that are less crowded so you don’t have to interact unnecessarily with others. Avoid carpooling and limit your number of hikes in the week to be cautious.

Camp in your backyard

If you have young children, it can be risky to take them outdoors because they’re likely to run around everywhere despite any number of precautions you take. You can take them on an adventure in your home by setting up a campsite in your backyard with your camping equipment. The only thing holding you back is your imagination! If you don’t have a backyard you can set up fortresses in your bedroom and create a starry night indoors!
